Sample information
Sample type : tissue
Clinical method: Affymetrix microarrays/qRT-PCR
Expression pattern : expression
Expression elevation: The staining and on the percentage of tumour cell stained. Intensity was scored as follows: 0 indicating no staining; 1 weak staining; 2 moderate staining; and 3 strong staining. The percentage of tumour cells stained was scored as follows: 0 indicating no staining; 1 indicating 1–10%, 2 indicating 11–50%, and 3 indicating 51–100%. Then, multiplying the intensity score against the percentage staining score, we obtained a single scale with scores of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 9. A total score was calculated grouping scores 1–3 in total score 1, 4, and 6 in total score 2 and 9 in total score 3. Tissues with no staining in term of intensity and percentage of positive cells (total score=0) were scored as negative.

Description: In conclusion, TFF3 is highly expressed at gene and protein level in G3-EEC. Further investigations on a wider set of samples are warranted to validate TFF3 as a novel serum marker for early detection and/or monitoring of G3-EEC patients.

Summary: Members of the trefoil family are characterized by having at least one copy of the trefoil motif, a 40-amino acid domain that contains three conserved disulfides. They are stable secretory proteins expressed in gastrointestinal mucosa. Their functions are not defined, but they may protect the mucosa from insults, stabilize the mucus layer and affect healing of the epithelium. This gene is expressed in goblet cells of the intestines and colon. This gene and two other related trefoil family member genes are found in a cluster on chromosome 21. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
