Sample information
Sample type : tissue
Clinical method: RT-PCR/immunohistochemistry
Expression pattern : positive expression
Expression elevation: The categories 0%, 1–5%, 6–25%, 26– 50%, 51–75%, and .75% were used to characterize the proportion of cells that expressed the Haymaker antigen. For those specimens that expressed Haymaker, the intensity of staining was graded on a 11, 12, or 13 scale.

Description: The expression of Haymaker protein does not appear, therefore, to be a marker of malignant transformation of the epithelium of gynecologic organs but rather distinguishes both normal and malignant epithelial cells from normal connective tissue and smooth muscle cells.

Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is localized in the outer membrane of the mitochondria. It is the channel-forming subunit of the translocase of the mitochondrial outer membrane (TOM) complex that is essential for import of protein precursors into mitochondria. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2015]
